I'm using ordinary password authentication here. This system has also been through multiple upgrades, but I haven't upgraded to 16.04 yet. I run Gnome 3 on another machine without this problem (but I probably get that password right more often).

Instead, it just hangs on "Checking..." forever until I manually kill gnome-screensaver. This is on a Lenovo Ideapad, with Ubuntu 10.10 i386.
