Same problem here using a Sony Walkman NWZ A818. The device is recognized correctly in mtp mode by the system and it works fine with Rhythmbox, but simply doesn't appear in Banshee 2.2 from Ubuntu 11.10 (and previous versions of course). Let me know if you need further information.
