Although this pertains to gnnome-power, I fixed wake-after-sleep issue by changing my display driver for AMD A8-GPU from recommended selection "xserver-xorg-video-ati" to "fglrx". In one of the forums someone suggested to look up log and look for "fail". I found it in KSystemLog's X-org log, a fail message upon calling "fglrx". So I changed the driver as I mentione before. And now the display wakes up with the computer when it wakes from the sleep. Hope this layman's explanation helps.
