Just installed Gnome 3 and Crtl-f seems to be disabled here too marking
bug as fixed. Will comment on upstream bug also.

Bug description:
  Dapper Flight6 + updates 2006-05-01:

  There is no search text field in Nautilus after Ctrl-F on desktop.

  1. Click with the mouse on the desktop to activate it.
  2. Press Ctrl-f
  3. Nautilus will appear with the search window but there is no text entry 
field where you can type your search text.
