Regarding screen freezing a dimming

Bug description:
This screen dimming problem has been around Gnome Ubuntu-based distros
since at least 8.x. Today, I am using ArtistX 13.04 and looked for a
solution again. The dimming/freezing has no set pattern when the
problem will strike, although using a browser frequently exhibits the
symptoms.
