It's a usability issue that doesn't limit the functionality of a core
package.

Title:
Dual monitor layout is lost after external display disconnect
Status in One Hundred Papercuts:
Confirmed
Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
I've got a Lenovo ThinkPad T430s laptop. I frequently connect it to
external monitors. Upon disconnecting and reconnecting, the dual
monitor layout is not restored and must be manually re-configured each
time. This is reproducible each time I reconnect to a previously
configured external monitor. This may be a regression from Ubuntu
13.10 since I recall it working fine on that release.
I'm attaching some screenshots, xrandr output, and my monitors.xml
file.
