  can't hibernate ubuntu 9.10 intel core 2 duo laptop

  i'm trying to hibernate and the screen blackens, but all applications keep 
running. while restarting, the screen is blocked and i need to type my 
password, just like as it was suspended. 
  suspension actually works, no problem at all. 
  tried installing hibernate package. still the same
