Stephen Boddy, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
[X1400] Cursor vanishes in narrow vertical strip of 2nd display

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-ati” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I have an Lenovo (nee IBM) ThinkPad Z61m which has an X1400 chipset. When the
second display is connected in extended mode on the right side of the primary
built in display there is a vertical strip, approximately 5 pixels wide on the
left hand side of the secondary display, where the mouse cursor disappears.
  Primary:
    1680x1050 (16:10) @ 60 Hz (Laptop 15") LVDS
  Secondary:
    1280x1024 (5:4) @ 75 Hz (Sun 19") VGA

Further, I tried swapping the monitors around with the display
utility, so that the Sun monitor is Primary and the Laptop is
secondary. The issue still exists and is still on the left edge of the
  secondary (now the Laptop) display.

Edit: Forgot to add the versions
