Rickytoo, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
  Monitor resolution

Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Release 11.10

Live CD enabled a large range of resolutions support by my graphics
card and monitor. Following the install, a single resolution
  (1280x1024) is available in Displays.

  My graphics card doesn't appear to be recognised reliably;
sudo lshw -C video - most often produces no output
lspci | grep VGA - most often produces no output
one time they did produce appropriate output, at that time I was able to set
resolutions appropriately, but subsequently lost it on rebooting. I use this
graphics card in dual boot with Vista quite reliably.

The one time 'sudo lshw -C video' produced output:
    *-display
         description: VGA compatible controller
         product: Radeon HD 4770 [RV740]
