it's not reproducible for me with Xubuntu 14.04 amd64. Despite this,
could you please comment to what extensions you have installed (ex. any
ones downloaded from non-Ubuntu repository and added in)?

As well, could you please provide the results of the following executed at a 
terminal:
apt-show-versions -r libreoffice*

Bug description:
  General error dialog when trying to open or save ODT files.

  Open any *.odt doc and you get a 'General Error' dialog box. If you
  Accept it the doc will appear.

  Trying to save results in a similar dialog box.

  This happens on new an old ODT files alike.
