Public bug reported: Installing recent updates to 13.04 raring on AMD64 results in system hang during bootup on the splash screen. Resolved by removing ATI drivers before installing updates.
Successful updates resulted in Kernel 3.8.0-33-generic currently running when system was hanging 3.8.0-32 was highest option showing in grub. Hang was reproducible, restored from recent image, installed updates system would not boot. Restored image again, only change this time was I removed the ATI drivers. After updates installed system rebooted normally and is functional. I have not tried re-installing Catalyst drivers yet. ** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1249201 Title: Update results in hung system with Catalyst drivers installed Status in “fglrx-installer” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Installing recent updates to 13.04 raring on AMD64 results in system hang during bootup on the splash screen.
