I have encountered the same problem, mostly when I attach an external monitor to the laptop after waking up from suspend.

Upon returning, I attempted to unlock the computer by entering my password with the keyboard. None of the keys seemed to have any effect - I couldn't enter anything in the password entry box and pressing return seemed to have no effect either. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 did allow me to switch to another VT.
