While it tries to connect, telepathy-gabble takes single of CPU cores and generates 100% load (probably polling in endless loop or so). Also, it is very likely that there's a memory leak in telepathy-gabble as after 10mins of it's process being stuck it takes around 3gigs of virtual memory according to htop's output.
