One additional observation: While searching for this problem, I found this suggestion:
Edit /etc/pulse/default.pa find the line that says: load-module module-udev-detect and to the end of it add "tsched=0" so the line now looks like: load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0 If I do that and restart pulseaudio, skype works (I have not tested with flashplugin), but everything that works normally -- alsaplayer, vlc, system sounds, etc. -- does not. They just produce scratchy static sounds. Removing the tsched option and restarting pulseaudio restores the original problem -- system sounds, alsaplayer, etc work, but skype does not. Also FYI this is actually kubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1235537 Title: No audio on skype or flashplayer through firefox - 13.10 Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: kubuntu-13.10 amd64 updated daily There is no audio on skype or flashplayer, either through firefox or chromium. When running skype, there is no entry for it in pavucontrol. When running chromium, there is an entry for "ALSA plug-in (chromium browser)" in the playback section, but there is no audio coming through it. VLC and ALSAPLAYER both work as expected. Maybe a problem for 32-bit applications trying to play? However, WINE applications do have audio.
