Title:
Installation of Nvidia 96 driver goes sour
Status in NULL Project:
Invalid
Status in “jockey” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Ubuntu 10.10 was definitely less sophisticated than 10.04. The
installation did not detect my video adapter (as many earlier releases
did) so I had to do it manually, remembering it was the Nvidia 96
driver. The results were that the driver was activated but not in use.
Cutting out intermediate steps, a mandatory reboot resulted in being
in stuck in Terminal (TTY1) and no matter where I search and what I
find, NOTHING I've come across makes it possible to return to the GUI.
I've tried the same thing twice, so I guess that means I'm insane
because I expected a different result the second time. I'm
contemplating returning to 10.04 and waiting a month or more before
daring to "upgrade."
