  Cannot type ascii characters by using Ctrl+shift+unicode in natty

Bug description:
  There are many methods to type ascii characters directly by using
  Ctrl+shift+U(4 digit unicode),I tried this method and works well in
  Ubuntu 10.10 but it cloud not work on Ubuntu 11.04,Whatever I tried to
  write ascii characters in gedit or gnome-terminal ,then all fail
  finally.
