Bug description:
  ubuntu 13.10 boots into user account but finishes with an empty
  launcher with message of internal error (since update today and
  demanded reboot). after recovery mode and repairing missing packages i
  ended up here (me not expert in ubuntu/linux, me spoonfed and fed-up
  user of winstupid and fairly new to linux but already learned of tons
  in shortest time)
