Also, in /var/log/kern.log at each crash (host name obfuscated for privacy):

This is reproducible at will (log onto my KDE desktop, open the K menu,
put the focus in the application "Search" box and hit a key. Konsole
also crashes X. The GUI is completely unusable.  The odd part is that
Firefox accepts key strokes in the navigation bar just fine.

Possible that this is not an r128 driver bug?

Please advise what else I can provide.
