To help the developers figure out what is wrong, would you mind (once you are logged in) pressing Alt+F2 and entering "ubuntu-bug lightdm"? Apport (the bug reporting application) will automatically create a bug report for you and you can post it on Launchpad, then post the bug number here and we can link the two bugs together.
