Official support for Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" ended on May 9, 2013.
If this issue is still occurring on Ubuntu 13.04 "Raring Ringtail"
please file a new bug so that we can get a fresh set of logs and system
info.

it is possible that you are affected by the bug reported at

  xserver crashes after playing video

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-nouveau” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  -Dual Monitor Setup
  -totem videoplayer
  Running a video in windowed totem, moving videoframe between monitors and 
then using skipping buttons when X hangs
  Magic-Sysreq K works and i get the login screen

  maybe Bug #543854  duplicate but since it seems to be Xdriver/Kernel
  related i opened a new one because of the wiki entry
