The register dump confirms the logs in that no modeset was requested and that the hardware is still driving the pipes as it was prior to the black screen. As far as we can tell, the screen should still be lit up.
That suggests that something outside of the usual chain (and I suggest -intel control) is interfering with the display. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1168273 Title: random black screen Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: I get black screens while working since last updates, not sure if xserver-xorg-video-intel is involved or something else by pressing ctrl+alt+f2 I can access the console == intel_reg_dumper before/after == --- normal.log 2013-04-16 07:42:09.000000000 -0700 +++ black.log 2013-04-16 07:39:59.000000000 -0700 @@ -28,10 +28,10 @@ PIPEA_LINK_N1: 0x00041eb0 (val 0x41eb0 270000) PIPEA_LINK_M2: 0x00000000 (val 0x0 0) PIPEA_LINK_N2: 0x00000000 (val 0x0 0) - DSPACNTR: 0xd8004400 (enabled) + DSPACNTR: 0xd8004000 (enabled) DSPABASE: 0x00000000 - DSPASTRIDE: 0x00001600 (88) - DSPASURF: 0x02c72000 + DSPASTRIDE: 0x00001580 (86) + DSPASURF: 0x00072000 DSPATILEOFF: 0x00000000 (0, 0) PIPEBCONF: 0x00000000 (disabled, inactive, pf-pd, rotate 0, 8bpc) HTOTAL_B: 0x00000000 (1 active, 1 total) @@ -199,7 +199,7 @@ PCH_PP_OFF_DELAYS: 0x01c20866 PCH_PP_DIVISOR: 0x00186905 PORT_DBG: 0x00000000 (HW DRRS off) - RC6_RESIDENCY_TIME: 0x02d94c0b + RC6_RESIDENCY_TIME: 0x30c0b2d1 RC6p_RESIDENCY_TIME: 0x00000000 RC6pp_RESIDENCY_TIME: 0x00000000 GEN6_RP_CONTROL: 0x00000d91 (enabled) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.21.6-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-17.27-generic 3.8.6 Uname: Linux 3.8.0-17-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu7 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true Date: Fri Apr 12 09:08:53 2013 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: raring DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0126] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
