** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1077546 Gnome Shell sudo dialog said "Sorry, that didn't work. Please try again" when opening Synaptic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to policykit-1 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1082972 Title: Launching apps with pkexec exits before I am able to type the password Status in “policykit-1” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: If I want to open an application which needs su rights via pkexec I am able to type some characters until the message follows "Entschuldigung, das hat nicht geklappt. Bitte versuchen Sie es erneut." (it is german but I don't know the exact original string or find the original string out in an easy way. It says something like "Sorry but that did not work. Please try again") and the dialogue disappears before I am able to complete my passphrase or press return key. Initially I found the bug by trying to start applications (ie gparted) via gnome shell. I am using x64 Ubuntu 12.10 with gnome 3.
