I think he didn't deliberately set nomodeset; it sounds like we're doing
this via grub for failsafe. Perhaps we shouldn't, but until that's
changed we should continue tracking this issue. Ideally the system
should give the user an error rather than crashing, or default to
something safe when we're in failsafe mode.
