I'm also seeing poorly rendered faults. It is very noticable on certain sites, for example the ubuntuforums.org site. I'll attach some screenshots. I've done fresh installs and tried different derivatives, played around with the font settings etc, but I can't cure it. The suggestion in post #2 does not help me I'm afraid. This problem causes really bad eye strain and at the moment Firefox is unusable for me. I'm on PowerPC and I did think until I found this bug that it could possibly be some endian thing? Not sure when the problem started, but I think it was a few releases back.
Attached are some screenshots of the ubuntuforums site using reKonq and Firefox so that you can compare the difference. It is a fresh install with all packages upgraded. I have not installed any extra font packages. If you zoom in on the "Problem logging in?" then you can see the badly rendered font. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1105328 Title: Firefox renders text poorly on some sites Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Firefox has begun rendering fonts incorrectly in some situations. I have noticed this mostly in Gmail and Google Docs, where red text will have dark pixels on the left side of characters (see attachment; left is Firefox, right is Chrome). On some other websites, lightly-colored text will have lighter-colored pixels drawn on the left side of the characters. However, the issue is not limited to red text. Even black text seems rendered/smoothed poorly in Firefox compared to Chrome (perhaps this part is subjective). Oddly it also does not happen on every website. Writing "Gmail" and "Inbox" in red 12pt Arial in Google Documents exhibits the problem seen in the attached screenshot, while writing the same text in Zoho Writer does not. In Google Documents, I can actually see the text rendered without this problem for a moment as the page loads, but something gets applied during the page loading process that changes the rendering to its final distorted state. Finally, running in safe mode or using a new profile do not affect this problem. I do not recall seeing this problem in versions before 18.0, but it could have been around in later revisions of v17. I also haven't been able to notice this problem in other desktop applications. Release: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: Firefox 18.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.12.10.1 Expected: Fonts are drawn correctly.
