Also, performing unrelated tasks will sometimes cause similar dropouts (e.g. perhaps simply scrolling up and down a webpage or changing tabs in Firefox). The audible dropouts last about a second. Also occurs in other applications that utilise Wine (e.g. Caesar III). Has been an issue since I did a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 from 11.10, and still with 12.10.
