I have tried to mute the sound with the blocked screen and it worked. It
is not possible to pause the player or change the volume but I believe
it is already a good step.

Title:
Keyboard shortcut does not change sound volume when screen is blocked

Status in Sound Menu:
  Incomplete
Status in “gnome-media” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 12.04, I locked my screen and then tried to lower the volume
nothing changed: the sound stayed as loud as before. Since the
keyboard shortcuts are used frequently to reduce the loudness in an
urgent way (I, for example, was listening songs with my baby child and
one specially loud one started to play) I believe it would be a decent
improvement to allow us to control the sound volume (and the playlist,
for that matter) with the locked screen.
