Title:
Integrated batch printing in Nautilus
Status in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Status in “system-config-printer” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Binary package hint: nautilus
Nautilus should be enhanced with „batch printing“:
1) In nautilus: User selects several files by marking them with mouse pointer
2) On right-click nautilus should offer a menu item, e.g. something like
that: „print selected files (batch-printing)“
3) Then nautilus should hand over all print jobs to another application, e.g.
„system-config-printer“
4) „System-config-printer“ should now handle all print jobs.
5) „System-config-printer“ should now open all applications that are
connected with the marked files (e.g.: *.odf-file with OpenOffice; *.pdf with
Evince; txt-files with gettext; etc.)
6) The relevant should start a print job and should hand it over the print
queue. After print data hand-over application should close themselves.
7) „System-config-printer“ should now open a user dialog: „All queued print
jobs to default printer?“ [Yes] – [No] – [Customize print jobs]
8) If user selects [Customize print jobs], „System-config-printer“ should
open a dialog, so that the user is able to decide which printer for which print
job should be adressed (e.g. network printer, local printer).
On the one hand, the more I think about this feature, the more I realize that
this is quite complex to realize in Ubuntu.
On the other hand, a batch queue printing pipeline in Nautilus is very useful
and enhances office productivity very much.
