I am glad to see this bug because I reached my end about 5 min ago. I have the exact behavior as is described above, i.e. usb headset and no devices listed in the input and output tabs of the sound manager, but I possibly have 2 added complications. No 1, I am running ubuntu precise (12.04) and No 2, I am running a ltsp version with the client needing to see the usb headset (We have a callcenter to which we will roll out this setup). I cannot sudo from the client as the server holds the user permissions, and the server does not reflect any pulseaudio processes, even if I chroot the image directory. I don't want to fluff the issue here, but if there is any help of any kind it will be one step further than I am now.
