I pasted the content of the file into a .py file made it executable with
'chmod +x' and ran it. Software center opened and after a few seconds
closed and unity-panel-service did not crash. The terminal getting
closed automatically is caused by something else.

Release Ubuntu 12.10 (Radeon)
Running the script http://paste.ubuntu.com/893441/ does not open
Software center. No activity takes place on screen, only the terminal
appears for a brief second and disappears.
Follow the steps to reproduce the issue:
#. Start with a clean screen
#. Save this python script and run it http://paste.ubuntu.com/893441/
Expected results:
The test should open the Software Center, move to the accessories and then
close it again, during this process the the panel service shouldn't crash.
This means that the menus and indicators must not be removed and readded
from the unity panel.
