I have a 2gig ubuntu karmic 64bit notebook and songbird crashed. I told apport to send a bug report, but then the system started running very slow. So I checked the system monitor and saw apport using a lot of CPU (30~60%) and a rapidly increasing amount of memory (when I started looking at it it was about 600MB but grew in about 10 seconds to 1.1GB). When memory consumption reached 1.1GB I couldn't move the mouse anymore without a several second delay to show action on the screen. I tried to ctrl+alt+backspace to the loginscreen (I have zapping activated) but that didn't show any effect. Neither did capslock (just tried to see if anything shows any reaction). So I had to restart the computer by holding the power button.
