Vern Poythress, this looks like a driver issue, so I'm going to kick it over to 
the xorg team. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically 
gather debugging information, in a terminal (this time it should work):
apport-collect 384913

** Package changed: libreoffice (Ubuntu) => xorg (Ubuntu)

** No longer affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu)

** Project changed: openoffice => null

  Binary package hint: openoffice.org

  OO 3.01 on ubuntu 9.04 (from ubuntu repositories; openoffice.org-
  impress 1:3.0.1-9ubuntu3) flickers improperly on the "Cover Down"
  transition.  The Cover down does not work as it should.  This holds
  both at home and at work, with two different video cards.
