I tried to reproduce this in Oneiric Alpha 3 which I downloaded an ISO for. I tried the live CD method, but Evolution has been replaced by Thunderbird. I installed Ubuntu in VirtualBox and tried to use the software centre to install Evolution, however, the software center application crashed. I tried several times with the same result.
I worked around this problem in 10.04.3 by not using the Equinox theme and there are more important bugs open for Evolution that this one.
