An update on this issue: - As Gunnar stated not all desktops provide a method of configuring LANG, so for legacy reasons it would be nice to be able to set it from the greeter. - I'm happy to support this as a legacy interface for LightDM 1.0, the issue is to do it in a way that does not conflict with more advanced uses of setting LANG (e.g. if PAM was to set LANG which in my opinion is the correct location to do it).
