This issue rendered GNOME Shell unusable after running snap install
ashpd-demo --edge (unable to login, gdm greeter loop). It was
particularly difficult to diagnose because the triggering action and the
visible failure could be separated by days, making the eventual login
failure look unrelated.

I didn't see any tests covering the changes. Malformed desktop entries
bringing down the desktop is quite scary, so having them to avoid issues
like this in the future would be nice if possible.

Otherwise, with the SRU, the crashes are gone in g-c-c and GNOME Shell,
so verification done pending the above comment.
