After installing PPA fix (50.1-0ubuntu2.1.lp2152207.1) +
COGL_DISABLE_GL_EXTENSIONS=EXT_buffer_age,KHR_partial_update in
/etc/environment (confirmed loaded in gnome-shell process environ):
Errors changed but persist:
Error 0x3003 reported by eglSwapBuffers
meta_onscreen_native_swap_buffers_with_damage failed. Frame aborted.
Failed to query buffer age, got error 3003
Behaviour:

Errors begin within minutes of login and escalate to ~300/minute during active
flickering
Visual corruption appears at outer top-left and top-right corners of the
display, bleeding downward — not at the center tile boundary
COGL_DISABLE_GL_EXTENSIONS does not prevent eglSwapBuffers itself from
returning 0x3003
Compositor restart via busctl is rejected (bs false "") during the error storm

Key finding — temporary workaround:
Toggling display scale (200% → 166% → 200%) forces display pipeline
reinitialization and stops errors immediately — same behavior as IgorP's
refresh rate toggle workaround. This suggests the issue is a recoverable EGL
state corruption — Mutter hits 0x3003, enters a bad state, and cannot
self-recover without a full pipeline reinit. An automatic recovery path after
eglSwapBuffers returns 0x3003 may be needed for MST displays.
Hardware:

HP ENVY All-in-One 34
Intel UHD 770 (ADL-S GT1), i915 driver
5120x2160 dual-tile MST panel (DP-1 + DP-2, two CRTCs, one logical monitor)
NVIDIA RTX 3050 secondary (not driving display, nvidia-drm.modeset=0)
Scale: 200% (integer — fractional scaling ruled out as cause)
