Public bug reported:
Summary:
After a recent system update on Ubuntu Resolute Raccoon (development branch),
the power-related actions (Power Off, Restart, Suspend) have disappeared from
the Quick Settings menu (top-right corner). Only the status iconos (Network,
Sound) are visible, but the interactive buttons for system power management are
missing.
Affected Package:
gnome-shell (Version associated with GNOME 50)
Environment Details:
OS: Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (Resolute Raccoon) - Development Branch
GNOME Version: 50
Display Server: Wayland
Kernel: Linux 7.0.0-7-generic
Hardware: AMD Ryzen™ 5 8500G / Gigabyte A620M H
Steps to Reproduce:
Log into a Wayland session.
Click on the Quick Settings menu in the top-right corner of the top bar.
Observe the bottom section of the menu where the power, lock, and
settings buttons usually reside.
Expected Result:
The menu should display buttons for Power Off/Log Out options, Settings, and
Screen Lock.
Actual Result:
The power/session buttons are completely absent from the UI. System can only be
powered off via terminal or keyboard shortcuts.
Additional Information:
Running alt+f2 -> r (in X11, though this is Wayland) or restarting the
session does not restore the buttons.
Terminal commands like sudo poweroff work correctly, suggesting the
issue is purely in the gnome-shell UI layer.
Log output from journalctl:
gnome-shell[5030]: meta_window_set_stack_position_no_sync: assertion
'window->stack_position >= 0' failed
gnome-shell[5030]: Error in size change accounting.
