Thanks. What's different in the journal of comment #9 is that I can see
more errors coming from the Nvidia kernel driver. I had recently tried
working around those in another bug report without any luck, so maybe
the best thing right now would be to select 'Ubuntu on Xorg' at the
login screen. Then you should be able to use the 'Alt+F2, R' workaround
mentioned in bug 1876632.
