I wanted to test pykeylogger (http://pykeylogger.wiki.sourceforge.net/) which relies on the RECORD extension, and it might be the reason why the hotkeys program no longer works (http://packages.qa.debian.org/h/hotkeys.html), as it worked with previous X servers. Is there a reason why it is no longer compiled? It was compiled before as module anyway, so people who don't want it just don't load it.
