Can you try xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.7.193-1 currently in experimental? It might not be built for powerpc yet, but the previous one (1:6.7.192-4) has been built already, testing any of them would be nice. Bug [1] could be related, but it appeared in 6.6.2, while 6.6.3 has been in Debian for about a year already.
