since mesa 7.8.2-1 it seems to be impossible to develop MOTIF apps that also need mesa, as a dependency to lesstif2-dev was added to libglw1-mesa-dev. lesstif2-dev and libmotif-dev conflict with each other. It would be nice if libglw1-mesa-dev would allow for libmotif-dev to also satisfy this dependency. lesstif and motif should be mostly compatible.
