There are a couple reasons... I need a sponsor (are you a Debian developer/know one?) and we'd like to update the database's SpiderMonkey interface to work with SpiderMonkey 1.8 before we release the package.
We'd really like to see MongoDB in Debian, too! Feel free to help out if you know any Debian developers who might be interested or if you know about SpiderMonkey.
