Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist I would like to see a meta-package with this title that has a complete desktop. "apt-get install gnome" on a fresh base debian system will add about 790mb of software, without any meaningful apps. I use these package names, and get more functionality, a faster system, and an uncluttered menu, by installing the following packages. I think it could end up being a hit if somebody who knows how to do metapackages right would do this.
menu alsa-utils alsa-base discover1 tea icewm-themes icewm sylpheed-claws-gtk2-pgpmime sylpheed-claws-gtk2-vcalendar-plugin sylpheed-claws-gtk2-feeds-reader iceape-chatzilla libflash-mozplugin xresprobe gdm-themes mplayer-skin-blue mozilla-mplayer synaptic xpdf-reader xscreensaver wine ssh mrxvt icemc bsc xorg dia gnucash openoffice.org-calc openoffice.org-writer openoffice.org-impress junior-arcade eog it's a pretty good list of packages, less than 790mb of files. Encrypted email, flash player web, image, music, some games, irc client, word process, presentation, etc. I hope somebody takes an interest to this idea. yours, -- Scotty Fitzgerald ============ A computer geek haiku for you....
