The code uses a small piece of software called readpng to read the png files.
That code has BSD license, but with an annoying clause that says:

   3. All advertising materials mentioning features or use of this
software must display the following acknowledgment:
This product includes software developed by Greg Roelofs
and contributors for the book, "PNG: The Definitive Guide,"
         published by O'Reilly and Associates.

I've asked some people in Debian, and they told me it's the usual 4th clause
from 4-clause BSD license, which seems to be GPL-incompatible.

What this is supposed to mean is that, as the rest of the program is GPL, it's
non-distributable unless that part can be replaced. I'm waiting for upstream
reply to find out whether that part of the code could be replaced with
something with a less annoying license.
