Hi, gnotify provides a litte daemon which is accessable via TCP/IP. Other applications can use the gnotify-API to make a message appear, which e.g. might be useful for instant messaging tools when a message is received. Do you know OSD-messages? gnotify is providing something quite similar to that. For example, the [1]SKIM the SebK.de Instant Messenger is going to use the gnotify-interface. Also, you could easily write a plugin for xchat. Maybe the gnotify-team will do so once.
I might think about a better synopsis when this question occurs more often. Regards, Simon [1] http://skim.sourceforge.net
