I've exchanged email with Ardo van Rangelrooij, the previous maintainer, and I'm fortunate to report that he says he is happy to sponsor me.
He also mentions that the previous upstream appears to be dead, but that a new version is available from -- apparently -- a new maintainer. I will work on packaging that.
