I will ask the upstream author of PFE about the matter (he works part time in the same company as I do). AFAIK, he told me about a change in that area. OTOH, I see no pressure on removing xm-tool and PFE at the moment. There is no reported bug in xm-tool (it's only needed to build PFE docs anyway) and only a minor bug (spelling) in PFE.
