I use this tool to set a timer and trigger a sound after it's completion using a command like this "countdown 50m && vlc ./completion.oga", I also keep the timer window above all others to be able to always see the timer. It is better than gnome clocks timers for my use case because I could resize it's window to a smaller size compared to the minimum size I could reach with gnome clocks timer window and it shows the only thing I care about which is what time is left until the timer reaches zero in a large display . It is better than the kde plasma desktop timer because it is easier to use and look better for me and it is also more portable (I don't have to install KDE Plasma to use it).
