Description : ProFTPD module for prometheus integration

The purpose of the mod_prometheus module is to provide metrics for scraping
 by Prometheus (https://prometheus.io/).
 .
Installation instructions are discussed here. Note that mod_prometheus
 requires ProFTPD 1.3.7a or later.

 - why is this package useful/relevant?

We want to collect metrics from proftpd in Prometheus and visualize
them in real time with Grafana for support and monitoring purposes.

 - is it a dependency for another package? do you use it?

I don't see this package as a dependency for something we already use.

 - if there are other packages providing similar functionality, how
   does it compare?

I don't know if other packages like mod_statsd or mod_snmp offer the
same functionality and then we could convert their output to Prometheus
format. However, I haven't investigated this possibility yet.

I'm a member of the ProFTP team, I plan to maintain it in that group.
