Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name    : ati-glx
  Version         : 3.2.8
  Upstream Author : ATI Technologies
* URL             : http://www.schneider-digital.de/html/body_download_ati.html
* License         : ATI proprietary
  Description     : ATI binary XFree86 4.x driver

I intend to package ATIs binary XFree86 drivers in a manner similar to
the nvidia-glx package (probably using it as a base) for Debian. I've
talked to ATI about this, and they seem positive -- however, the package
itself currently includes no license at all (ie. nothing that permits
redistribution), and they had to check with legal to fix that. (It will
of course have to go into non-free no matter what the license is, as the
drivers are binary-only.) So, until I get an answer from ATI, it cannot
be packaged, but I hope to get a positive reply from them.

I'm fully aware of the package, although it surfaced after I began my
efforts. In short, I don't use my own packages anymore, I use fglrx-installer
:-)

I'm closing the ITP; it makes little sense for me to keep it open given
ATI's slowness and the existence of fglrx-installer. (I should probably
contact Flavio to see about getting fglrx-installer into contrib, but that's
another matter.)
