Dear Casper and Alexander, i received from both of you a request to adopt gshield and both of you asked why i orphaned it. so i'm writing a common answer :)
i orphaned it because i don't use it anymore, because i find it not very flexible, because upstream seems dead and finally because i don't think it is that great piece of code to be included in debian. gshield is not in debian archive so it can't be technically adopted anymore, it needs to be inserted from scratch. a ITP needs to be issued in order to show who is working on it. i suggest you to see log of bug #208759 (which i'm CCing) to read more about gshield removal and, given this story, probably ftpmaster will need to be convinced before gshield can reenter debian. but here i could be really wrong. please think twice before packaging gshield again. not that gshield is a bad tool, indeed it is pretty nice for a personal use, but it is not that good either. i advice to all the gshield users to try firehol, a much more powerful and easy to use tool. in case i was not able to dissuade you, i suggest to start from the last version found in archives (http://snapshot.debian.net), it includes modifications requested by some debian users and that were not merged by upstream (mostly because he never meade a new release in long time). cheers dom -----[ Domenico Andreoli, aka cavok --[ http://filibusta.crema.unimi.it/~cavok/gpgkey.asc ---[ 3A0F 2F80 F79C 678A 8936 4FEE 0677 9033 A20E BC50
